How to manage living alone in a new city during pandemic?

Living alone can be challenging when Coronavirus or COVID-19 is spreading around in full spur.

And moving to a new city for work, leisure, or safety purposes can be tougher.

But, when it’s compulsory, take note of few measures in mind.

These measures are -

ENSURE TO STAY INDOORS

Irrespective of the location, you have to stay indoors.

There is no arguing or further discussion to be announced on that matter.

However, certain emergencies cannot be neglected.

If it’s impossible to get stuff indoors, get out with most precautions: Wearing a mask, gloves, and maintaining social distance.

KEEP A FIRST AID KIT WITH YOU

This is one of the most important and crucial measures to follow while living alone, especially in a newer place, city, or state.

The first-aid kit this time must include stuff like:

  • Oximeter
  • Thermometer
  • Medicines for fever, acidity, stomach ache, body ache, cold & cough, or the regular flu.

MAKE LIST OF ALL THE EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Even while you are in a new city, you have to be conscious of your health and emergency situations. For that, make a list of:

  • Doctors
  • Paramedics
  • Essential service providers
  • Ambulance
  • Nearby hospitals and COVID-19 centers
  • Your close family members and friends, and others.

All this should be belonging to the same city you are living in at present.

BE SELF QUARANTINED FOR 7-14 DAYS

While travelling and shifting to another city, it’s important that you follow the norm of making yourself self-quarantine.

We don’t know what the pandemic control rules in the city you are travelling to at present.

But you can always make sure to curb the effect of any viral attack on your body within 7-14 days of self-quarantine.

At least, you won’t be the reason for its viral spread around others in the same building, society, or locality.

EXERCISE DAILY AND EAT A HEALTHY DIET

Living alone is exhausting. We know that.

But at this time, you have to be proactive. Concisely, you should cook, clean, and wash for yourself daily. Besides that, do some breathing and other physical exercises daily.

Additionally, ensure that you are drinking lukewarm or warm water regularly to keep your body hydrated. Keep checking your vitals too. This makes you a responsible citizen, irrespective of the location you are living at.

Eating a healthy diet inclusive of fruits, green leafy vegetables, and nuts is necessary. It gives your body the immunity boost to fight off any signs of viral or bacterial

attack.

TAKE GOOD SLEEP

Having peace of mind is equally essential.

You cannot tire yourself, especially when you are alone and, in another city, completely.

Ensure that you get at least 6-8 hours of sleep daily.

It keeps your body relaxed, free from unnecessary tension/fatigue.

DEVELOP A POSITIVE HABIT TO HANDLE BOREDOM

Develop habits like cooking exotic stuff, reading new and positive novels/books, watching new + motivational shows or movies.

Keep yourself entertained when you are extremely bored.

Largely, it helps you to manage time when you have nothing else specifically to do.

And to avoid trapping yourself into too many choices, make a to-do or to-watch or to-read list.

This will help you tick off the productive tasks at your hand.

BE IN TOUCH WITH YOUR LOVED ONES

Do not lose touch with humanity while living alone, even in a pandemic.

Keep a constant check on your loved ones: friends, family, lovers, spouse, neighbors, and more.

Indulge in heartfelt communications with them all through voice calls, video calls, chat messengers, or video/voice conferences.

Try to play a game or watch a movie online together. This brings you closer to the people, even more, when you are still far away.

Connect with strangers online on your social media platforms and let them know how you can help them in any way.

Or else, request them to help you in any manner, especially if they are natives of the city where you have recently started living.

DO NOT LET YOUR LIFE STOP

The new normal inclusive of health-related precautions and pandemic news all around does not mean you lose all the hope. Basically, you should not think that your life has ended.

Instead, this is the time when you need to be more stubborn, even while living alone, without a roomie.

Do everything that is possible, which you did before the pandemic.

But taking health-friendly measures too. For example, you can still:

  • Look for a new job
  • Hire someone online in your team
  • Go for a virtual date
  • Call someone after a long time to surprise them
  • Go out for a walk in the park wearing a mask and gloves
  • Be connected to your family online
  • Look for a roommate with safety measures like maintenance of social distancing
